Carpenter, firefighter, aviator, yachtsman, adventurer, raconteur.
Dick has made his final voyage.
He is pre-deceased by his wife Susan in 1972. He will be remembered for his years (1975-2020) aboard his home-built yacht “S.V. Because”. Dick circumnavigated the globe (1978-1985) with Australian companion Roz Woodhead, and around the island fourteen times, lastly at age 79 with a long- lost childhood sweetheart.
Always “off-the-grid”, Dick spent his winters in Baja, California (Juncalito) 1988-2020, summers aboard “Because”, often with his grandchildren. His last three years were spent living with family in Brentwood Bay. He enjoyed driving to the “Emporium”, walking at the Brethour Cemetery and lunch at “The Dakota” (Victoria Flying Club). He was a mentor to many and a great storyteller.
He leaves: daughter Ruth (h. George; Ben, Jasmine and Catie), son Richard (w: Alexis; Alena and Elizabeth), daughter Roni (h. Colin; Robin) and seven great grandchildren.
When mutual friends gather, tell a “Dick” story and remember him fondly.
