Our Beloved Mother Doris Lewis, nee Elander, died peacefully on July 21, 2020. Predeceased by her son Tony, Doris is survived by her children Cindy (Ron), Doug, Mike (Barb), Michelle and Greg (Marissa) as well as her grandchildren Emily (Jon), Jordan (Emma), Jesse, Kevin, Tony, Jaimie, Lauryn and Erica.
Born in Wadena Saskatchewan to Knute and Anna Elander from Sweden, Doris was one of thirteen children. She came to Victoria by train and boat with her parents when she was 13 years old and attended Lampson Street School. She worked as a telephone operator for BC Tel, when she met her husband to be, Eric Lewis, and was married in 1954.
Doris was a co-founder of Big Louie’s Restaurant, the Voyager Restaurant and later the Waddling Dog Inn. Her favorite job was raising her children and entertaining.
Her main life interest was golfing and curling with her friends. She had a very active social life at Glen Meadows and the Army and Navy.
We all feel so blessed to have had Doris in our lives as she was very kind and non-judgmental. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her.
Many thanks to the staff at Resthaven Lodge for all of the kindness and care they provided. Doris was known for her constant singing and the silence will be noticed by everyone there.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the Canadian Institute for the Blind.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
